$2.1M home listed on Redfin appears to be that of Google engineer who allegedly killed wife

(KRON) — “Move-in ready,” “freshly painted inside and out,” and “conveniently close to everything” are a few of the descriptors in a Redfin listing for a Santa Clara home listed for $2,120,000. The home, located at 714 Valley Way, appeared on Redfin earlier this week and was built in 1960.

It has a two-car garage, air conditioning and is “outfitted with exquisite cabinets” and “top-notch appliances.” However, the listing fails to mention the home’s unfortunate history.

As first reported by SFGate, the home appears to be the same one previously occupied by a Google engineer who allegedly savagely beat his wife to death — inside the home.

On Jan. 16 of this year, Xuanyi Yu, who was also a software engineer at Google, was found dead inside a home that matches the address of the Redfin listing. According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney, police responded to the home around 11 a.m. for a welfare check.

Yu’s husband, Liren Chen, refused to answer his phone or the door, an acquaintance told police. He said he could see Chen inside the home “motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly.”

Officers entered the home and took Chen into custody. The victim was located deceased on the floor with severe blunt force injuries to her head. Chen, the DA said, had an extremely swollen and purple right hand, blood on his clothing, legs, arms and hands, and scratches on his arms.

Paramedics, according to court documents, asked Chen how he hurt his hand.

“I punched my wife,” he replied.

Chen, 27, was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife.

The California Association of Realtors states that sellers must disclose any deaths on a property listed within the last three years. KRON4 has reached out to the listing agent for the property for clarification. We have yet to hear back.
