The $2,145 Balenciaga Version of IKEA's Blue Tote
Fact: IKEA's tote bags are a household staple - they're big AF, foldable, super lightweight, and equipped with sturdy straps. Who hasn't stuffed these 99-cent bad boys to the brim when laundry day rolls around?
And if you're a die-hard lover of IKEA totes, you can now treat yourself to a seriously chic upgrade. Luxury fashion brand Balenciaga has released an "Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag" that's big, blue, and drawing comparisons to the furniture store's signature tote.
According to Barney's website, where the bag is sold for $2,145, the "shopper tote bag is constructed of blue wrinkled, glazed leather."
While it's unclear if Balenciaga was, in fact, inspired by IKEA's famous blue tote bag, the resemblance is so spot-on.
IKEA, for one, is taking the design as a compliment, telling Today in a statement: "We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the IKEA iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!”
