19-year-old man killed, 70-year-old man shot in Stockton in 17th homicide of the year

A Sunday morning shooting left one dead and one injured in Stockton, according to police.

At about 9:33 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the 600 block of El Camino Avenue for a report of a person shot, a Stockton Police Department news release stated.

A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. A 70-year-old man was shot and taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police wrote.

"It is believed that both victims were relatives," police spokesman David Scott wrote. "We cannot confirm the exact relation at this time."

The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Fontayne Warrick, of Stockton.

Police identified Miguelito Asuncion, 36, of Stockton, as the suspected killer. He was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of homicide, Scott stated.

"Preliminary information is that there was an unknown disturbance involving all three individuals," Scott wrote. "Detectives will be investigating to piece together what exactly transpired the moments prior to the shooting and what led to this homicide."

Asuncion now faces two felonies — murder and assault with a firearm on person. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m.
