19-year-old hurt in Sangamon Co. car vs. tractor crash

SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) – A driver in Sangamon County was lucky to escape serious injury, the Sheriff’s Office said, after their car crashed into a tractor early Thursday morning.

The crash happened on Waverly Road at the intersection with Mansion Road, located in New Berlin Township. The Sheriff’s Office determined that a Hyundai was driving south on Waverly at high speed and approached a tractor that was pulling a field cultivator.

Officials said the 19-year-old Hyundai driver was unable to slow down in time and hit the back of the cultivator. They were taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was given a ticket for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Highlighting the accident on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office took the opportunity to remind drivers to be aware of slow-moving vehicles and give their full attention to driving.
