LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 19-year-old Arizona man was arrested on a manslaughter charge in the investigation of a Jan. 2, 2024, hit-and-run crash that left a 69-year-old man dead.

Dehaven William Shaffer III of Golden Valley, Arizona, was questioned by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office detectives and told them “that the collision was an accident,” according to information posted on social media.

MCSO detectives said Shaffer admitted his involvement in the crash.

James Douglas McDaniel of Golden Valley was found dead in the roadway at the corner of Chino Drive and Adobe Road. Golden Valley is south of Las Vegas on the road between Kingman and Laughlin.

“While seeking out Shaffer for questioning, Detectives observed Shaffer’s vehicle had front-end damage consistent with the collision dynamics,” according to MCSO’s post.

Shaffer was taken to the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman, where he was booked on charges of manslaughter and failure to remain at the scene of an accident, both felonies. The investigation is continuing.
