19 or 76? Local man celebrates his 19th/76th birthday on Leap Year

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Born February 29, 1948, Bob Salm is 76 years old. Salm was born during a leap year. Salm is just 19 years old in leap years and says there is a significant difference between celebrating your birthday at age 19 compared to age 76.

“I’m a much more subdued individual. I can’t do a lot of things to the extreme as I used to, and it’s just a part of the aging process, I guess, so I can’t blame it on the leap year,” explained Salm.

Salm says he cherishes every birthday, and his birthday wish is to see many more leap years.

“My next time will be when I’m 80 so I’m not in any rush to get there, my one goal is to make it to 100 so I can say I’m 25 years old, but we’ll see where that takes us,” said Salm.

Salm plans to celebrate his birthday by enjoying a glass of wine and eating his wife’s chocolate cake.
