Troopers said the 18-wheeler overturned onto its left side after a collision involving multiple vehicles and then came to rest in the median. The driver sustained minor injuries in the accident and was treated at the scene by EMS. Both left lanes on the northbound and southbound sides were shut down.

While that accident had already occurred and traffic was backing up on the northbound lanes, another accident involving multiple vehicles occurred resulting in one of the victims being airlifted with life-threatening injuries to an area medical center, Highway Patrol later confirmed with Queen City News.

Highway Patrol said cleanup and recovery will take several hours and drivers are urged to find an alternate route Wednesday afternoon.
