18 Sports Flashback – Teleprompter Cable studio

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It’s time to go into the vault with 18 Sports Flashback.

On this edition, we go back to a photo in 1972 that’s perhaps being shown publicly for the very first time. It’s a rare photo of the former Teleprompter Cable News studio which served the Twin Tiers for years in local news. The studio was located in Horseheads on Lake Road and it was used as a public service channel.

In the frame, from the 5 PM Newscast 52 years ago, Kent Higgins is the anchor (left) and Dick Skelly is the sports anchor (right). The photo is courtesy of former Teleprompter Cable intern, Ed Keagle, an Ithaca College graduate.

Teleprompter was eventually sold and acquired by several communications companies. Today, Charter Communications, which absorbed the subsidiaries of the former Teleprompter company, owns and operates Spectrum. WETM-TV News can been seen today on Spectrum throughout the region.
