18 Sports Commentary – Fisher & Shazer shined at Marist

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It’s time for a special commentary on two of the greatest Elmira basketball players of all-time.

Best friends, teammates and a basketball bond that will never be broken. Elmira High School grads Kiara Fisher and Zaria Shazer have endured so much to earn success in college basketball. After Fisher transferred to Marist College from Syracuse University, the duo became the focal point of the Red Foxes for the past three seasons.

On Tuesday, Marist saw their season come to a close at the hands of Mount St. Mary’s in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament. With the loss, Fisher and Shazer’s collegiate careers concluded as seniors on the team.

Fisher set the single-game scoring record with 44 points last season leaving an everlasting mark in the program. While Shazer’s all-around game earned her multiple all-conference honors. Together, they will be missed in the Marist College program for how they played the game and for what they stood for.

From the tough times with injuries and setbacks, to all-conference selections, 18 Sports discusses the remarkable run that we may never see again to appreciate.
