18 Sports Commentary – the big game’s local winners

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It’s time for a special 18 Sports Commentary on the big game.

Super Bowl 58 hits next Sunday at 6:30 PM with the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the San Francisco 49ers. The game will take place in Las Vegas and showcase the two best teams in the NFL. For decades, the Super Bowl has been the pinnacle of professional sports and entertainment with millions watching around the world.

Throughout the years, plenty of local talent has had the opportunity to earn rings for their Super Bowl wins. Most recently, Horseheads native Joe Gilbert won in 2021 as the offensive line coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2013, Endicott native Arthur Jones won as the defensive tackle with the Baltimore Ravens.

Years prior, Hornell’s own Mike Waufle captured the Super Bowl as the defensive line coach with the New York Giants. And, in 2000, Horseheads’ Shaka Arnold earned his very own ring as a member of the Baltimore Ravens public relations department.
