COUPEVILLE, Wash. (AP) — Eighteen homes on a scenic Washington state island are still inaccessible because of a massive landslide.
Authorities continue to survey the damage and potential danger from Wednesday's slide on Whidbey Island, 50 miles north of Seattle.
Terry Clark, of the Island County Emergency Management Department, says one home was destroyed and 33 others were ordered evacuated.
Five homes remained under evacuation orders Thursday afternoon, though most residents had limited access to retrieve belongings.
Crews worked to create a gravel walking path for people who still can't reach their properties because of debris.
No damage estimates were yet available.
