$18.9M project will close busy Pierce County thoroughfare for months. Here are details

Sections of Spanaway Loop Road South will be closed from mid-June to early November for improvements. After the work is completed, the public can expect a smoother surface and increased capacity of the public sewer system along the busy thoroughfare, according to Pierce County.

It means Spanaway Loop Road South will be closed for about four months between 116th Street South and Garfield Street South.

That also means 116th Street South near Spanaway Loop Road South and Ainsworth Avenue will be closed for about two months, according to the county.

During the closure, Spanaway Loop Road South will be repaved between Garfield Street South and Military Road South.

Additional road work will take place on Steele Street South between 116th Street South and 109th Street South, and drivers can expect to see traffic narrow to one lane outside of peak traffic times.

Detour signage will direct drivers to alternative routes.

The Parkland/Brookdale Interceptor Phase 4 project is budgeted for $18.9 million. It is funded by Sewer Utility Construction Funds, which are composed of sewer connection charges and monthly sewer service charges, said Jenny Burger, a public information specialist with the Pierce County Planning and Public Works department.
