Today, members of the House of Representatives and Senate were sworn in during the first session of 116th Congress at the U.S. Capitol. Amidst the historic inductions and ceremonial proceedings, plenty of sweet moments also took place behind the scenes. There were countless cameos from children, emotional interactions, and celebratory selfies. Below, catch up on the moments you might've missed from today's swearing-in.

Nancy Pelosi invited the children of lawmakers present on the House floor to join her at the podium as she took the oath of office to become Speaker of the House.

And some people seriously resonated with her gavel pose.


While Rashida Tlaib, one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, cast her vote for speaker of the house, her sons shamelessly dabbed beside her.


She was also seen adorably waving and blowing kisses from her seat.


Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, another one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, had a sweet moment holding Rep. Eric Swalwell's baby during the swearing-in.

Deb Haaland and Sharice Davids, the first Native American women in Congress, had an emotional embrace after being sworn-in.


Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, the first openly bisexual person sworn into Senate, rocked a stylish fur stole for part of the swearing-in ceremony.


Veronica Escobar, one of the first Latina women to represent Texas, shared a photo of her proud husband and his spouse pin.


Rep. Barbara Lee of California went hard on selfies. She got snaps with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressely, Lauren Underwood, Anne McLane Kuster, Deb Haaland, Sharice Davids, and Jan Schakowsky on the floor of the house.

Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee's first female senator, brought her sons to her swearing-in, and they wore the cutest little bow ties.


Rep. Katie Hill California hugged it out with her mom before heading to the House floor.


And Pelosi's granddaughter was over the moon for the new speaker's votes.
