15 people in ‘violent crew’ indicted after months-long investigation

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced a sweeping federal indictment on Thursday after investigating a group suspected of distributing drugs throughout the District.

The long-term investigation began back in September 2023. Police said the “violent crew” was based out of the Carver Langston neighborhood.

Police recovered 20 firearms, over $23,000 and suspected fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana and liquid PCP throughout several search warrants that were executed throughout the District

A 17-count indictment was issued on Monday and the investigation culminated in the arrest of over a dozen people on Wednesday.

The following suspects were arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute 400 Grams or More of Fentanyl and Cocaine Base within 1,000 Feet of a Protected Location, Unlawful Distribution of 40 Grams or More of Fentanyl, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition by a Person Convicted of a Crime Punishable by Imprisonment Exceeding One Year, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and a number of other related charges:

  • 31-year-old Jamiek Divine Bassil, of Northwest D.C.;

  • 34-year-old Damien Antonio Jenkins, of Capitol Heights, Md.;

  • 32-year-old Charles Manson, of Northeast D.C.;

  • 29-year-old Trevon Rashard Palmer, of Northeast D.C.;

  • 20-year-old Nathaniel Russell, of Northwest D.C.;

  • 42-year-old Van Garfield Robinson III, of Southeast D.C.;

  • 30-year-old Briyon Dewayne Shuford, of Northwest D.C.;

  • 47-year-old Jason Green, of Northeast D.C.;

  • 40-year-old Lydell Douglas, of Southeast D.C.;

  • 26-year-old Jerome Delonte Powell, of Southeast D.C.

The following suspects were also arrested:

  • 23-year-old Jahru Gathers, of Northeast D.C., was charged with Possession of Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device;

  • 35-year-old Abrian Avone Walker, of Northeast D.C., was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony);

  • 22-year-old Ahmed Bailey, of Northeast D.C., was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance;

  • 40-year-old Calvin Timorthy Allen, of Northwest D.C., was charged with Manufacturing, Distributing, Dispensing, Possessing a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Pistol;

  • 29-year-old Roscoe Washington, of Northwest D.C., was charged with Possession of Unregistered Ammunition and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.

Over 300 officers and agents with MPD, DEA, FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office were involved in the operation.
