15-year-old girl hospitalized after Akron shooting: Police

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – A 15-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after investigators say she was shot in Akron Thursday evening.

Officers were called around 6 p.m. to a shooting at Fuller Street and Minson Way, near Joy Park.

Investigators learned that multiple shots were fired and a teen was reportedly struck, according to the Akron Police Department.

When they got there, officers says they found a 15-year-old girl on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers at the scene applied a tourniquet until EMS crews got there. Investigators say the victim was taken to the hospital with what they believe to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Akron police detectives believe an altercation led to the shooting, but the case remains under investigation at this time. Investigators are still working to identify any suspects.
