15-year-old bicyclist dies after colliding with car: KCSO, CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 15-year-old bicyclist involved in a car crash Tuesday in northeast Bakersfield has died, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

According to KCSO, the victim, identified as Jacob Gonzalez, was the passenger of a makeshift gas-powered mini bicycle that was involved in a collision with a vehicle at the intersection of River Boulevard and Skyline Avenue.

Gonzalez and another unnamed 16-year-old boy were transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. KCSO said Gonzalez was pronounced dead at Kern Medical on Wednesday at 9:12 a.m.

CHP said Gonzalez and the 16-year-old were not wearing helmets. The driver of the involved vehicle was not injured.
