15 abandoned cats found in San Leandro hospital

(KRON) — More than a dozen cats were dumped at the San Leandro Medical Center, according to the San Leandro Police Department.

The police department asks residents not to abandon animals in the Facebook post.

“Dumping your unwanted pets on the street is cruel,” San Leandro PD said in the post. “You are leaving them to fend for themselves. You are leaving them to suffer from hunger, thirst, and the elements. Your pets will feel distressed and confused because they have been left on their own in an unfamiliar place.”

The department said in the post, “If you are no longer able to care for your pet, please call San Leandro Police Department Animal Control Unit to help you out or give you advice on where you can surrender your pet.”

The post also cites the East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (East Bay SPCA) as a resource to contact.
