15-year-old dies after struck by Freightliner truck while riding makeshift skateboard

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 15-year-old has died after the teen boy was struck by a Freightliner truck Tuesday while riding a makeshift skateboard, troopers said.

According to the NC State Highway Patrol, at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, troopers responded to a serious accident on Caleb Road near East Maiden Road.

A 15-year-old boy riding a makeshift skateboard left his driveway, entered the road, and was struck by a 2011 Freightliner truck traveling south.

Family claims 9-month-old severely burned at Concord daycare

The teen was seriously injured in the accident and was rushed to Atrium Health Lincoln in Lincolnton where he tragically died from his injuries, troopers said.

“The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. All occupants were restrained by seatbelts,” NC State Highway Patrol said.

The area was closed for about an hour on Tuesday afternoon.

No charges will be filed in this case against the driver, troopers said.
