13-year-old boy grazed in forehead by stray bullet in Bronx

A 13-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the forehead after shots were fired on a Bronx street, police said Tuesday.

The child was on E. 169th St. near Park Ave. in University Heights about 7 p.m. Monday when someone started firing off shots outside NYCHA’s Morrisania Houses.

One of the bullets creased the scalp of the pre-teen, who is not believed to be the intended target, cops said.

He told police he was walking and heard a loud noise, then felt something running down his face and realized he’d been shot.

He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Two officers racing down Webster Ave. on their way to the scene lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a fence as they zipped around a car not involved in the shooting, cops said.

The officers were also taken to Lincoln Hospital with minor injuries.

No arrests were made.

Cops on Tuesday were scouring the area for surveillance footage that could help them identify the shooter.

The shooting comes amid a spate of violence against teens that has led to the deaths of three adolescents under 18 this month.

Eight people under 18 have been murdered in the city this year as of Thursday, police said. It’s a drop from this time last year, when 11 children under 18 had been killed.
