13 Easy Ground Beef Dinners That Are Actually Healthy

Ground beef has gotten kind of a bad rap over the years. I get why people tend to avoid it, I really do. The '50s housewife favorite isn't exactly a beacon of health, thanks to famously unhealthy dishes like Hamburger Helper and meatloaf. But those dishes are not the be-all end-all of ground beef cooking and I think it's high time we gave it another shot.

Here's my thinking: As long as you're not cooking it with a ton of processed ingredients and are balancing it out with vegetables and other nutritious foods, there are plenty of ways to turn ground beef into a healthy meal. Sure, it's not as lean as turkey or chicken, but it's always super affordable and a good source of iron and protein. And, you can choose how lean you want your ground beef to be. Regular ground chuck (chuck is the cut typically used for ground beef) is usually about 80 percent lean protein and 20 percent fat, but supermarkets usually sell 85, 90, and 95 percent lean options as well.

Once you've chosen your beef, allow one of these 13 healthy recipes to win you over. They're all packed with an array of nutritious ingredients like veggies and whole grains. Not to mention, they're super easy to whip up—perfect when you need a satisfying meal in a pinch.
