Update: Hurricane Florence has made its way out of the Carolinas, but people are still recovering from the aftermath of the tropical storm. According to The New York Times, at least 17 deaths were blamed on Hurricane Florence and flash flood warnings were still in effect in parts of North and South Carolina as of Monday.

On Friday, CNN reported that Hurricane Florence diminished from a Category 4 storm to a Category 1 tropical storm. However, the hurricane brought up to 40 inches of heavy rainfall in affected areas, which include the Carolinas, Georgia, and Virginia, according to forecasters. The Independent reported that at least 1.7 million people were forced to evacuate.
