DENVER (KDVR) — Most twelve-year-olds don’t have a clue what the future holds for them.

For Patti Zhou, the future is now.

The Beijing-born, Colorado-based snowboarder is ready to return to the slopes this weekend at the Dew Tour in Copper Mountain.

“I’m so grateful that Dew Tour gave me this chance,” Zhou said on a Zoom call from China. “I’m excited to feel the energy and hype myself up.”

At the 2023 Dew Tour, Zhou finished second in the women’s snowboard superpipe final – becoming the youngest athlete to land on a podium spot at the Winter Dew Tour. In 2022 and 2023, she placed first in both the USSA Nationals halfpipe and both USSA National slopestyle competitions.

“I get so much energy from my family and friends,” Zhou added as she was packing her bags to return to her second home in Colorado.

Zhou started snowboarding at the age of four. In addition to competitive riding, she is also a high-level surfer. Her goal is to compete in both sports at the Olympics, once she meets the age requirement.

“I can go big, and I can go fast,” Zhou said as she prepared to compete against boarders twice her age. “My favorite part is going (to Copper) and having fun. And competing with adults.”

So is she ever intimidated?

“No, I’m a Zen master.”
