110 year-old Franklin County floral business closing; auction to follow

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A long-time floral business in Franklin County recently announced its upcoming closure after 110 years in business.

The family-owned Plasterer’s Florist and Greenhouse has been serving the Chambersburg area since 1914. Recently, the family announced that they have officially sold their property at 990 Lincoln Way East, and will be auctioning off the contents of their business later in April 2024.

“We’re selling it all—from floor to ceiling—the displays, fixtures, everything,” owner Greg Plasterer said in a release.

Included in the upcoming auction will be items such as:

  • Floral supplies

  • Greeting cards

  • Floral equipment

  • Storage cupboards

  • Tables

  • Office equipment

  • Troy-Bilt sickle bar mower

  • Meyers snowplow

  • 2002 Ford Econoline van

  • Ford minivan and more

Although the greenhouse portion of the property was sold to Grayce Gardens a few years ago, florist operations continued in front of the main building in Chambersburg. The current owners, Greg and Patti Plasterer, have been running the business since Greg’s father, Herbert, passed away in 2016.

Now, Greg and Patti are ready to close up shop and retire.

“The community over the years has really been good to us,” Plasterer added. “We’ve gotten a lot of nice comments from people and we certainly do appreciate it.”

According to Gateway Gallery Auction, the public sale will be held on Saturday, April 20 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Plasterer’s Florist and Greenhouse location on 990 Lincoln Way East.

“This auction being held in the spring not only offers the opportunity for folks to participate in the closure of a business that was a floral institution in the community, but also a great chance to purchase spring gardening pots and other accessories,” said John F. Kohler Jr., auctioneer at
Gateway Gallery Auction.
