11 sewer overflows reported in Prichard area: Mobile County Health Department
PRICHARD, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile County Health Department officials are asking Prichard-area residents to take precautions after 11 sanitary sewer overflows were reported.

According to an MCHD press release, the Prichard Water Works & Sewer Board reported 11 overflows that began May 14, following Monday’s severe storms, which produced thunderstorms, heavy winds and flooding.
Officials say heavy rains from the storms caused the overflows.

Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels asks residents to take precautions when encountering standing water that may have accumulated from the overflows.

“Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly,” the release said. “Area residents should take precautions when using Gum Tree Branch, Chickasaw Creek, and Toulmins Spring Branch for recreational purposes because of these overflows.”
“All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating. People should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.”
