Here’s a fine story out of Kansas: Ruby White, a 101-year-old KU fan, just attended her first game.

She caught a good one, as Kansas throttled Toledo 96-58, but the final score wasn’t important. The century-old coal-miner’s daughter, whom her loved ones call “Ruby-Doo,” got to experience at last the insanity and glory that is Allen Fieldhouse.

“I’ve wanted to come here for years,” White told the Kansas City Star. “This means a lot to old people.”

White ended up on the sidelines thanks to Kansas coach Bill Self. White’s son emailed Self, who in turn helped Kansas get her to the game. She even got the chance to deflect a wayward ball that came her way during shootarounds. All in all, an exceptional evening for an exceptionally long-lived fan.

“Ohhhh, joy,” Ruby said at one point. “I’m ready to go up.”

The full story on Ruby White’s visit is worth a read.
