100-year-old Illini fan gets hundreds of birthday wishes

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — An avid Illini fan in Monticello just turned 100 years old this past Sunday, and with the help of hundreds, he brought in his century celebration with a bang.

A couple weeks ago, Warren Taylor wished for an Illini basketball championship for his 100th birthday. There isn’t a championship — yet — but for his birthday over the weekend, he got hundreds of cards, calls, and well-wishes from friends and family across the country.

Taylor had a birthday party at United Methodist Church in Monticello. Similarly to last month, he remains confident that Illinois basketball will gift him a championship.

“They may have it a little tough tonight, but they’re going to win that. They’ve got to!” Taylor said. “They’ve played teams just as tough as that.”

Taylor said his 100th birthday was without a doubt his favorite, and looks forward to hopefully watching the Illini advance further in the tournament.
