10 stories about celebs doing good to restore your faith in Hollywood

Entertainment news has been pretty glum lately, as the sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., and other familiar names just keep on coming. But, of course, there are people doing good in Hollywood too! It’s just been particularly tough to remember that lately.

Twitter users came to the rescue over the weekend, offering up tiny anecdotes about celebs doing small acts of kindness. It wasn’t Beyoncé and Kevin Hart donating to hurricane relief or Justin Bieber cheering up patients at a children’s hospital — though those are commendable acts too! They’re things the celebs reportedly did when no one was watching. It was prompted by a user’s request for “nice allegations” at a time when those are sorely needed and just in time for World Kindness Day.

Here are 10 of the best (albeit unverified) stories shared:

Robin Williams

One of the sweetest stories shared was about the late comedian comforting a complete stranger. “I was crying quietly to myself after my Mom died in a cafe,” @pantone 7605 wrote. “Robin Williams noticed me and paid my check. He whispered things usually get better.”

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman

Actress Mara Wilson shared positive stories about several co-stars from her younger years on films such as Mrs. Doubtfire and Matilda, the latter of which she worked on with DeVito and Perlman. Mostly, it was that the actors had been nice to her siblings, but there was also the time her onscreen parents DeVito and Perlman took her in.

Louis Tomlinson

The singer made a fellow Bob Dylan fan’s day after encountering him smoking on the balcony. “In a Bob Dylan concert, I was sitting in the last row and was frustrated. I went to the balcony for a smoke and ran into Louis Tomlinson from one direction. We had a little chat and then he asked where I was sitting,” @NoSoyBraulio wrote. “I told him and he took me to the first row. Best day ever.”

Gilles Marini

In case you were wondering whether the Brothers & Sisters actor is as charming in person as he is on TV, the answer is yes, according to @andegolcher.

Kate Winslet

Winslet also offered a shoulder to cry on, according to @crumpetsruleok. “Kate Winslet once consoled me in the airport after flying back from seeing a boyfriend. I was heartbroken and she was so sweet to me.”

Jared Leto

Evidently the seemingly always cool Suicide Squad star really is pretty cool, even in a panic. Fan @letospurpose claimed that he came to the rescue at Coachella when someone “passed out after drinking a fireball” and made sure the person was “taken to a medical tent.”

Carrie Fisher

A fan reported that the late Star Wars actress once offered her some wisdom via Twitter, just when she needed it most. “Out of nowhere,” @umathurmcns wrote, “i dm’d her bc i was having a breakdown and two days later she responded in the middle of the night with an advice i’ll forever hold in my heart.”

Kevin Smith

The director, who has pledged to donate all future residuals earned on projects connected to Harvey Weinstein to the nonprofit Women in Film, was part of the conversation thanks to his reported good behavior. “When I was a student journalist I had scheduled an interview with Kevin Smith about his movie Red State but the email got caught in his assistant’s spam filter,” @MattGrippi posted. “He found out and invited me to a premiere then talked to me for 45 mins till the theater closed.”

Chris Martin

A superfan of the Coldplay singer reminded us that Martin has logged a lot of time in hospitals too. “He spends hours talking to the kids, singing them songs, giving them presents and cheering them up,” wrote @42dontEverLetGo.

Jessica Chastain

Fan @elanorgabriela chimed in that Chastain wore a shirt she’d designed for the actress at a women’s march. Chastain appeared to confirm this account when she responded with, “thank you for the shirt & for always being so kind.”
