10 Outside-the-Box Reno Ideas for the Most Organized Kitchen Ever

Renovating a kitchen comes with an unreal amount of decision-making, and before you even start a Pinterest board, there's one of the biggest questions to consider: What basic things do you want your new kitchen to provide? Do you want an entertaining hub? A space where it's easy to cook super elaborate dinners? A room your whole family can hang out in together, no problem? Well, according to the 2018 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study, none of those are actually the top priority for remodelers. What made the number one spot (aside from the obvious function, style, and beauty) was ease of storing and finding things. "The majority of homeowners prioritize storage over all other functions of their kitchens," Houzz announced. So you should probably plan to have a handy pull-out garbage can in your new space (67 percent of the renovators Houzz surveyed do), but this is the time to go all out with storage ideas that are just as useful, but way cooler. Here are 10 outside-the-box ideas we think you should tell your contractor about ASAP.

An oversize pegboard for anything and everything

A compost bin built right into the countertop where you chop your veggies

Ugly electric outlets beautifully hidden under your upper cabinets

Extra-tall cabinets with room for the additional mini shelves you'll inevitably want later

A built-in cutting board drawer that practically disappears when it's closed

Corner cabinets for the space that would otherwise stay empty

A ventilated drawer to keep your bread cozy

A dish-drying rack carved directly into the countertop next to the sink

A nook just for your trusty paper towels

Slatted drawers to give your produce some air
