“I’m devastated. I live on this compound. I have a two-year-old, 7-year-old and 11-year-old and I just can’t wrap my head around it. The summertime comes around, him and my daughter play in the yard together, well-mannered child. It’s going to be hard to break this news to my daughter that she lost a friend,” a neighbor said.

Chicago Public Schools released a statement Wednesday evening, saying, “With great sadness, we are devastated at the loss of another young life. The thoughts and condolences of the entire Chicago Public Schools (CPS) family are with all those impacted by this tragedy.”

One neighbor noted that they heard screaming in the morning.

“She was a loveable woman and her son was very well-mannered and he spoke to me all the time and I’m sorry for this tragedy,” a neighbor said.
