These 10 construction projects across Topeka were the biggest pitched in 2023

In 2023, Topeka saw $101.2 million in private and public construction costs for the top 10 largest building projects.

"These types of capital expenditures not only represent a commitment by local employers to invest in Shawnee County," GO Topeka president Molley Howey said, "but they also mean jobs for contractors and residents of our community who have worked and will contribute, to bring these projects to life."

Among the highest include education, medical, administrative and commercial construction projects.

"This list represents a sample of the many expansions and new builds that are helping the Topeka area grow one building, one campus and one company headquarter at a time," Howey said.

Following are the top 10 building projects submitted for approval in 2023.

Auburn-Washburn Middle School

The new school will serve as a second Washburn Middle School that is expected to be completed for the 2025-2026 school year.

Building permits for renovations to the Shawnee County Courthouse, 200 S.E. 7th St., have totaled $10 million with the overall project cost at $14.48 million in federal COVID-19 relief money.
