Curiosity was the undisputed robot superstar of 2012. Ever since she set down on the red planet in August, Curiosity has been behaving in true 2012 style: updating software, checking in on FourSquare and taking hipster-tastic photos.

Years from now, we'll look back at 2012 as the last year of innocence before the catastrophic robot revolution -- a simpler time, when we could ignore the inevitable dystopian future right around the corner.

That doesn't mean robots weren't on our mind this year. Disney announced more Star Wars sequels, meaning the lovable droid duo of C-3PO and R2-D2 will return to the big screen soon. And hey, we almost elected a robot president.
