Kharkiv City has absorbed 10,000 people evacuated from northern Kharkiv Oblast in recent weeks, city Mayor Ihor Terekhov told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on May 21.

According to Terekhov, the city has provided all necessary support for the evacuees.

“We have already accommodated approximately 10,000 people who were forced to move to Kharkiv, provided them with all the essentials, and will continue to take care of those who had to leave their homes due to active fighting in their [home] areas," said the mayor.

On May 10, Russia launched a cross-border assault on Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast, attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses near Vovchansk. The attack’s momentum appears to have been blunted, but the invading troops managed to advance 10 kilometers deep into Ukrainian territory in the region.
