DENVER (KDVR) — Glendale police have arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting that killed a 20-year-old man. Police are still looking for two more suspects.

On Tuesday, the Glendale Police Department confirmed on X that officers took the female suspect, 21-year-old Sarah Sandoval into custody. Sandoval was arrested in Texas and police are working on her extradition to Colorado.

Officers are still looking for information on the whereabouts of 22-year-old Caleb Choice and a second suspect who has yet to be identified.

Choice is described by police as a “possible dark skin male,” with a distinct tattoo on the back of his left hand with the word “Loyalty” written in cursive. He was wearing a dark Nike hoodie, black pants and a belt possibly with rhinestones on it.

The three suspects are wanted in connection to a shooting that killed Gianni Fernandez inside his Glendale apartment.

Family ‘just wants justice’

FOX31’s Alliyah Sims spoke to Fernandez’s family on Sunday.

“Evil came into my son’s apartment that night, this was all planned, this was all premeditated,” Fernandez’s dad said.

Fernandez’s mom said he was catfished by a woman whom he had been speaking to on Instagram for the past two months. When the woman, identified as Sandoval, came to town, Fernandez invited her over.

Shortly after entering Fernandez’s apartment, police said Sandoval was later seen opening the security gate of the complex to allow two masked men inside.

Aggressive driving may have been a factor in deadly E-470 crash

Fernandez’s dad said Diego Torres, his son’s best friend, was there at the time. He ran to see what was going on. As he approached the room, he heard a gunshot. As he was trying to protect his friend, he was also struck by the gunfire. He went to the hospital in critical condition.

“Nine bullets he took,” Fernandez’s mom said. “He told me he wanted to make sure they didn’t shoot Gianni anymore and then he ran and covered him and took all those shots in the back. So, Diego is a hero in our eyes.“

Unfortunately, Fernandez died on scene after the woman shot him, his dad said.

“I think they came to rob him, and things just went south,” he said.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Choice and the second suspect is asked to call Glendale police at 303-639-4308 or email Officer John Quintana at JQuintana@glendale.co.us.
