1 in custody, 1 wanted after cars rammed at Wheat Ridge King Soopers

DENVER (KDVR) —Wheat Ridge police spent Wednesday working on what they called a “complex situation” after two suspects allegedly rammed into cars in a King Soopers parking lot.

Just before 12:30 p.m., the Wheat Ridge Police Department tweeted about the situation. Officers were at the King Soopers on Youngfield Street.

Officers said the situation started as a shoplifting call. When officers arrived at the King Soopers the suspects allegedly rammed into a patrol car and two other cars before fleeing the scene.

Police confirmed that no officers were injured, but one bystander sustained injuries from the crash and was taken to a local hospital. On Thursday, police said the victim was treated and released.

The suspect’s vehicle was located at 42nd Avenue and Youngfield Street after the crash. At the intersection, officers took a woman into custody. She was also taken to a local hospital, but the extent of her injuries is unknown.

Wheat Ridge police were still searching for a male suspect who allegedly ran toward the Clear Creek trailhead. At about 2:51 p.m., officers reported they had pulled back from the search along Clear Creek for the outstanding suspect, and said they do not believe there is a threat to the community.

The suspect was identified on Thursday as Francisco Gonzales. Gonzales is 37 years old and 6 foot, 3 inches tall.
