1 seriously hurt in ORV crash in Blue Lake Twp

BLUE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who was driving a 4-wheeler was hospitalized following a crash on Friday in Blue Lake Township.

Around noon, deputies with the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of Louisa Road and Forest Road for a crash involving an ORV.

Responding deputies learned that a 4-wheeler was heading eastbound on Louisa Avenue and was hit by a vehicle that was heading northbound on Forest Avenue. The sheriff’s office said this is an open intersection with no traffic control signs.

The driver of the 4-wheeler, a 29-year-old man, received severe injuries to his leg, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office said the 29-year-old was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was traveling at a high rate of speed.

ORVs are legally allowed to drive on the roadway in Blue Lake Township, according to an ordinance passed in 2023, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation.
