1 person taken to a hospital after 2 fires burn a house and a mobile home in Pasco

The Pasco Fire Department fought two house fires within six hours on Saturday.

One resident of the homes was taken to a hospital with injuries, according to the fire department.

Firefighters were called about 3:30 p.m. to a double-wide mobile home at 502 S. 22nd Avenue with a column of smoke rising from it.

The fire department described the home as “heavily involved in fire” with one person outside the home when firefighters arrived. The resident was treated for injuries before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The home had extensive structural fire damage by the time firefighters completed a search to make sure no one else was inside, and it could not be saved.

Crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Although the fire department did not say whether the home had working smoke alarms, it reminded residents to check smoke alarm batteries twice a year.

Pasco firefighters were called to a second house fire just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

There were reports of flames coming out a door. Everyone was out of the house, according to initial reports, but later firefighters learned that someone may have gone back inside looking for their dog.

Fire crews arrived at 505 N. 15th Ave. to see heavy flames and dark smoke coming from the garage.

They confirmed everyone was out of the house and contained the fire to the garage and attic above the garage within 25 minutes.

The rest of the house had mild smoke and water damage, according to the Pasco Fire Department.

Because power was shutoff and an investigation into the cause of the fire was started, residents were not allowed to stay in the house Saturday night.

The dog safely escaped, according to the fire department. It reminded residents not to re-enter a building that is on fire to save their belongings or pets.
