1 person found shot to death outside home in Carr Square

ST. LOUIS – Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting after a man was found shot to death outside a home in the city’s Carr Square neighborhood.

According to a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to a call for a “person down” near the intersection of Cass Avenue and Hogan Street. just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Police arrived to find the victim collapsed near a home’s privacy fence along Hogan. He’d been shot in the back and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not been identified.

Around 10:45 p.m. Monday, police received a ShotSpotter activation in the 1500 block of North 18th Street in the St. Louis Place neighborhood. Around the same time, police in District 4 (where the ShotSpotter activation occurred) also received a phone call from a resident who reported hearing gunshots.

Between 9:53 p.m. and 10:37 p.m., District 4 received seven other service calls. Police said because they had no information suggesting someone had been shot, the other service calls took priority.

Around midnight, an officer from District 4 went to the area of the ShotSpotter activation to investigate. The officer found no evidence of a shooting or a victim.

Homicide detectives believe the victim was originally shot on North 18th and fled to Hogan Street, where he collapsed.
