One man died and two others were seriously injured Friday night after a head-on crash on a major highway in Centre County.

Robert G. Cummings II, 63, of Blair County, crossed into the northbound lanes of Interstate 99 in Worth Township at about 11:20 p.m. Friday, state police at Rockview wrote Sunday in a crash report. He died at the scene.

Gooderham A. McCormick, 24, of State College, and Isaac M. Pollert, 33, of Indianapolis, were seriously injured and taken to UPMC Altoona, police wrote. McCormick was transported by Port Matilda EMS, while Pollert was flown by medical helicopter for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Cummings was not wearing a seat belt; he was driving a 2013 Honda Accord. McCormick, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Legacy, and Pollert were each wearing a seat belt, police wrote.

The crash report did not detail why or what caused Cummings to cross the grass median and into the northbound lanes.

There were four fatal crashes between 2013 and 2022 in Worth Township, state Department of Transportation data showed. Twelve deadly crashes were reported during that time in Rush Township, the most of any municipality in Centre County.
