1 killed in I-85 Business crash

Feb. 6—GUILFORD COUNTY — One person was killed and at least three people were injured late Monday morning in a crash along Interstate 85 Business at the intersection with Riverdale Drive .

A work van and a passenger vehicle were stopped in the southbound lanes of I-85 Business, also known as U.S. 29, at the traffic signal at Riverdale just before 11:40 a.m. when a box truck traveling south failed to reduce speed and ran into the rear of the passenger vehicle, forcing it into the rear of the van, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.

One person died at the scene of the wreck. The person's name and gender were not released, pending notification of the person's family.

People who were in the work van, the passenger vehicle and the box truck all suffered injuries and were taken to medical centers throughout Guilford County.

No other details had been released by mid-afternoon.

The southbound lanes of I-85 Business at Riverdale Drive were closed for hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
