1 killed, 3 hurt in north Charlotte crash

One person was killed and three were seriously injured in crash late Thursday night in north Charlotte, MEDIC said.

The wreck happened at about 11:15 p.m. on Statesville Avenue near Atando Avenue.

A Dodge Charger, driven by Jordan Devont Mitchell, 27, was trying to make a left turn at a red light, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

A Ford Crown Victoria, also traveling into a red light but in the opposite direction, collided with the Charger.

The driver of the Ford, Stephen Eric Bowman, 43, died.

The driver of the Dodge, Jordan Devont Mitchell, 27, was taken to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center with serious injuries.

Passengers in the Dodge, Ya’Aunna Broome, 21, and Nicholas Vincent Trapni, 29, were taken to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not known if speed was a factor. Toxicology reports are pending.
