1 killed, 1 injured in head-on crash along Whites Creek Pike

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One driver is dead and another is injured following a head-on collision along Whites Creek Pike Wednesday evening, Nashville law enforcement reported.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the incident took place near the Fontanel property around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.

Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities said a Chevrolet Silverado truck was heading south when it crossed over the double yellow line and hit a Volkswagen Taos head-on. The Volkswagen was reportedly knocked into an embankment and traveled through a fence before it came to rest.

Officials said the 54-year-old Volkswagen driver was brought to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the driver of the Chevrolet — identified by police as 48-year-old Michael Fernandez of White House — died at the scene of the crash.

According to law enforcement, toxicology testing will be conducted in order to determine if impairment factored into this deadly collision.
