1 injured after Frontier passengers evacuated from flight at Charlotte airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person was hospitalized following an incident on a Frontier Airlines plane at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Wednesday night.

Emergency personnel responded to calls before midnight involving a Frontier Airlines airplane. Medic said one person was taken to an area medical center after falling and injuring themselves.

A slide could be seen at the back of the plane, however, it is unclear at this time why the slide was deployed in the first place.

Flight 1759 was set to leave for Orlando at 10:52 p.m. before it was evacuated. One passenger told Queen City News they smelled an odor and then the lights went off. The pilot then asked the passengers to evacuate. Some of those passengers were continuing to wait at the airport for a flight to Orlando as of 7 a.m. Thursday morning.

One passenger told QCN that $200, 90-day vouchers for future flights, and $60 breakfast vouchers were handed out and that those not living in Charlotte were offered hotel rooms.

Frontier sent the following statement to Queen City News.

“Yesterday evening as Flight 1759 was in the boarding process at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a strong odor was detected throughout the aircraft. As a matter of precaution, the captain issued an evacuation notice.

Passengers exited the aircraft via both the jet bridge and evacuation slides. Initial reports indicate that no visible smoke or fire was observed. All passengers will be re-accommodated on alternate flights.

We extend our sincere apologies and concern for those impacted and are investigating the cause of the incident. Flight 1759 was scheduled from Charlotte to Orlando with 226 passengers. The aircraft is an Airbus A321neo.”
