1 injured after boat crashes into barrier along Florida causeway: report

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — One person was left injured after their boat crashed into a barrier along the Sanibel Causeway on Thursday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast.

Officials said a Fort Myers Beach rescue crew was searching for a person in the water when they received initial reports of two involved in the crash.

It was later confirmed that only one person was aboard and was with EMS personnel on land.

NBC affiliate WBBH reported that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a call that afternoon regarding a 24-foot boat that crashed with a 44-year-old man onboard.

WBBH said the man is currently in “good condition” at a local hospital.

In a statement to the news outlet, Captain Larry Hendricks said, “How in the world do you end up that far up in a parking lot? I don’t know how hard he had to hit those rocks to launch and land. That’s remarkable.”

The FWC is currently investigating the crash.
