1 injured, 1 arrested after Wise Co. shooting

WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – One person was injured and another arrested after a Friday morning shooting in Wise County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that dispatchers received a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. from Randall Potter, 63, of Coeburn.

Potter reportedly told dispatchers he had shot another person during an argument over money on Dan Hall Road in Coeburn.

Wise County deputies responded to the scene and found the gunshot victim had already driven himself to a nearby hospital.

The sheriff’s office interviewed both Potter and the victim. Potter was charged with malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

As of Friday evening, Potter was being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield with no bond.

The victim remained at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as of Friday evening, the sheriff’s office reported.
