EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Just a day after Governor Josh Shapiro was in Luzerne County to talk about the increase in gun violence and his plans to combat it, there was another shooting Thursday night.

Edwardsville Police spoke with 28/22 News Reporter Gianna Galli on scene saying a person was shot on the unit block of Beverly Road Thursday evening outside the Eagle Ridge Apartment Complex.

The gunshot victim was transported to a nearby hospital, according to police, and their condition is not known at this time.

Police have extended the caution tape at the crime scene as they continue to investigate.

State police, Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Science Unit, and multiple police departments have been on scene for hours Thursday night.

The Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce is also on scene to investigate.

“The condition of the victim is currently unknown, he is in surgery, he is expected to survive but it is uncertain, the remainder of the information is in influx right now due to the ongoing investigation,” Sanguedolce explained.

Authorities say an investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.

A community in Edwardsville is on edge one day after efforts from Governor Josh Shapiro were made to combat gun violence.

Galli talked with a resident who lives in the area and wished to remain anonymous and off-camera.

She told Galli there has been a recent spike in police activity the last several days at the apartment complex and this doesn’t come as a surprise.

“In this parking lot specifically it’s a little unnerving. As far as the whole community, no, it’s not too shocking. My jaw didn’t hit the ground let’s just say. Unfortunately, this is what seems like happens when people get desperate around here,” a neighbor explained.

28/22 News is gathering further details on this incident and will give updates as new information becomes available.
