The crash happened Friday around 4:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of Goodwin Neck Road, north of Back Creek Park.

Virginia State Police said Aaron Eli Hoopingarner, of Yorktown, was traveling northbound on Goodwin Neck Road, when he attempted to pass two vehicles on the left. Hoopingarner lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and hit a traffic sign. He attempted to regain control of the vehicle, overcorrected, ran off the road again, and hit a tree.
