Debris and damage from powerful storms are seen on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma.

One person has died after several tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma and multiple other states amid an ongoing severe weather outbreak early this week.

Authorities with the Osage County Sheriff's Office announced the tornado-related death shortly after a massive twister struck Barnsdall late on Monday, May 6, according to FOX affiliate KOKI-TV and NBC News.

This is the second time Barnsdall has been hit by a tornado in the last five weeks, CNN reported. An EF-1 twister hit the town on April 1.

The storm this week then moved into Bartlesville and caused significant damage there as well, though no one was killed, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.

Tornadoes struck portions of Missouri and Tennessee, too.

In Sullivan, Missouri, tornadoes on Tuesday, May 7, severely damaged a popular spot known as One More Pub and Grub as well as the local high school, according to FOX affiliate KTVI and CBS affiliate KMOV.

And two radar-indicated tornadoes touched down in Middle Tennessee on Monday afternoon, causing damage in Wilson and DeKalb counties, NBC affiliate WSMV-TV reported.

The National Weather Service will be assessing damage from the storms, as is standard.

In addition to tornadoes, the storms delivered strong winds, heavy rain and large hail. The federal government's Storm Prediction Center said nearly 245 storm reports were made on Monday, according to CNN.

The severe weather outbreak isn’t over yet as Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee and portions of surrounding states brace for an enhanced risk of tornadoes Tuesday into Wednesday, May 8, according to the NWS.

Many areas in these states have already been walloped by tornadoes and severe thunderstorms over the last few months — and especially over the last week, as severe weather continues to strike the Midwest and Plains states.

Five people, including a baby, died during a tornado outbreak in late April that impacted Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and several other Midwestern states. Four of the deaths occurred in Oklahoma, and one was reported in Iowa.

Part of the area bracing for tornadoes on Tuesday was also hit by an outbreak in mid March, which left three people dead in Central Ohio.
