1 dead following crash in White Pigeon Twp.

A 26-year-old Sturgis man died following a traffic crash in White Pigeon Township shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road to a two vehicle head on traffic crash where they found the Sturgis man pinned in his vehicle. He was subsequently pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.

A 28-year-old man from Lagrange, Indiana sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Parkview Lagrange Hospital in Lagrange for treatment.

Preliminary investigation shows the Sturgis man was eastbound on Fawn River Road when he crossed the centerline into the path of the Lagrange man who was westbound on Fawn River Road.

Seatbelts were not being worn at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors, according to the sheriff's office. This crash remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by the Constantine Police Department, White Pigeon Fire Department, Lifecare Ambulance, Western Michigan University Medical Examiners Office, Farrand Funeral Home and Bowers Wrecker Service.
