I-71 reopens in Warren County after fatal crash closed it for hours

One person is dead in a crash on Interstate 71 in the northern Cincinnati suburbs that led to lengthy delays during the morning commute Thursday.

The southbound lanes and two of the northbound lanes were shut down between the Western Row Road and Fields Ertel Road exits for hours while authorities responded and cleaned up.

All lanes were opened just before 8 a.m.

The crash was reported at 1:40 a.m. when an SUV and semi collided in the southbound lanes near the Western Row Road exit, according to a dispatcher at the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon post.

The collision resulted in a fire and one person was pronounced dead at the scene, Warren County Coroner Dr. Russell Uptegrove said.

The person’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin, according to the coroner.

The semi-driver was taken to a hospital with a minor injury, the OSP dispatcher said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
