1 dead after driver on marijuana crashed into vehicle in central Las Vegas: police

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A person is dead after police said a reckless driver consumed marijuana before crashing into another vehicle.

According to police, the two-vehicle crash happened overnight near the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive.

Sargeant Rondel with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said an 18-year-old driver was suspected of consuming marijuana before getting behind the wheel of a car.

Police said that the driver drove recklessly, lost control of the vehicle, and hit another vehicle head-on.

The passenger of the other vehicle was killed.

“Drivers you are not allowed to consume marijuana and drive. It is a DUI,” Sargeant Rondel said in a video posted on social media. “You are not allowed to consume marijuana if you are under 21 years old. Please, help save a life, even if it’s yours.”

No additional details were given at the time of publication.

According to police, this incident marks the jurisdiction’s 35th traffic death for 2024.
